KITCHENAID TILT-HEAD MODELS
For smoothest operation, please check that the beater position is not too low. Please raise the height of your beater. If you have adjusted your mixer so the beater touches the bottom of your bowl or if your original beater shows wear or damage on its painted finish. This minor adjustment will not affect the operation of most other mixer attachments and is based on KitchenAid published adjustment guidelines.
Troubleshooting Q & A for Tilt-Head Mixers
The stand mixer head wobbles or bounces.
Make sure that the locking lever is in the LOCK position. Raise the mixing height by adjusting the tilt head adjustment screw as shown in the Installation Instructions. Turn the adjustment screw ¼ turn counterclockwise and retest. Repeat if necessary. Note: The wobble can be more pronounced in some individual mixers, and may not be completely eliminated.
There is a stripe of ingredients at the top of the bowl.
A narrow stripe of ingredients just above the top path of the blade is normal, especially for large batches. After stopping the mixer, just scrape the stripe down lightly into the bowl just past the top fin, and it will be incorporated.
The mixer kicks flour & light ingredients out as it mixes.
The flour cloud can be minimized by adding lightweight ingredients slowly, a little at a time. Add only on your mixer’s lowest speed, or stop the mixer to add ingredients a bit at a time. You can also use the clear plastic splash shield that came with your mixer.
The batter splatters into my kitchen.
SideSwipe’s fins make contact with the bowl and move ingredients around more than your standard beater. To reduce splatter when you are making a thin batter, reduce your mixer speed and/or use the clear plastic splatter shield that came with your mixer.
SideSwipe is not scraping one section of the bowl.
SideSwipe’s extra-long fins are designed to accommodate some variations in bowl shape and mixing motion but may not work on a mixer that varies significantly from factory specifications. If the missed spot is on one side of the bowl, try to lock your bowl in the opposite direction. If SideSwipe is missing on the bottom of the bowl, lower the head ½ turn and retest.
